a. It saves us room in our database, especially if you're of a mind to post Tolstoy for some reason.

b. Nobody likes being copy-pastaed (pasta'd? pastad?). We're special; write something original for us or acknowledge that it wasn't written especially for us. As one forumite pointed out, "[the] cut and paste form of argumentation is getting really annoying." Translation: Two paragraphs of talking to us is more welcome than fifty pasted to us.

c. The spread of articles in this manner is, if my data serves me, a good SEO technique (try googling 'coberst'). Spambots use this type of SEO, too. Just sayin'.


As for telling people what you know, think of it like this:

BEST - Write something special for the forum, which can't be found anywhere else.
ACCEPTABLE (usually, see above) - Link to an article.
ALMOST NEVER ACCEPTABLE - Pasting stuff wholesale.

Violators get one warning through either PM or a reply post. A reply with your understanding ('ah, okay, got it, won't happen again') is appreciated. Multiple offences without acknowledging warnings are grounds for a ban.

That said, welcome to the forum I hope you get a lot of information from it.

I guess I ought to have read this first. I have already made two posts, but this thread was tucked away in a place where I couldn't easily find it. I haven't broken any of the rules though. Thanks for making things so clear; I am sure this will be a great spam-free forum where people can really learn and interact.

The forum has just re-opened after being besieged by over 3000 spam mailings. I hopefully have made it more secure and will continue to learn about phpbb security until most of the wrinkles have been smoothed out. Hope you enjoy using the forum again and keep the experiences, questions and suggestions coming.
